This former student activist-turned-PR worker blogs his thoughts on issues affecting his country the Philippines. Meet karlom87 here.
Can you tell us something about yourself? I'd like to stick to my usual introduction. I'm a 20 year-old frustrated writer residing in Cebu, Philippines. I am the eldest son of a journalist and am presently studying at the University of the Philippines. What do you think your avid readers think about your blog? My blog, postcard headlines (http://postcardheadlines.wordpress.com ) is basically a personal blog where I write commentaries about topics that are of interest to me. I also post some stuff that I wrote before May 14, 2007, the day I started blogging. I used to be a student activist being the chairperson of our college's student council last year and the information officer of the Kabataan (Youth) Party in my region during the 2007 Philippine elections. Most of my blog entries are about propagating my advocacies on human rights, accessible education, agrarian reform and social justice in general.
So I guess my readers see my blog as a place in the web where they can get information on "what's really happening in our country," as one reader put it . And hopefully my site can move them to also speak out and act on the relevant issues that affect all of us. What are your plans after finishing school? I am already working part-time as a media relations assistant to PRWorks, a Cebu-based public relations outfit. This is the line of work that I wish to pursue. I'd also like to take up post-graduate studies on development-related courses. Of course, I plan to marry and raise a family with my girlfriend Beryl. And if I'm lucky, maybe I could fulfill my dream of setting up my own news outfit too. What other websites do you visit regularly? I check the sites of my former organizations, other cause-oriented groups and news outlets which I link to my blog. I read the blog of my favorite columnist, Manuel Quezon III at http://www.quezon.ph . Also, I regularly check the blogs of former University of the Philippines Dean Luis Teodoro (http://www.luisteodoro.com/), Cebu journalist Bong Wenceslao ( http://cebuano.wordpress.com) and Kabataan Party president Mong Palatino ( http://mongpalatino.motime.com).
Why did you join Asia Observer? I joined Asia Observer simply because it's one of the best places to know more about what's happening all over Asia. :) | Planning a demonstration against the Arroyo administration
