What happened to the jungle girl?

March 19th, 2007

19 years after she disappeared from her family she suddenly returned, apparently after spending the years in the jungle. The amazing story from Cambodia caught worldwide attention. But what happened next?

Let me admit it: I am fascinated by the forgotten stories. There are many of them every year. For a while media everywhere write about hardly anything else. Then suddenly it is quite. Dead quiet.

These days I am thinking about the “jungle girl”. Do you remember the story? A family apparently was reunited with their long-lost daughter, who had survived in the jungle.

The story caused an enourmous interest among people around the world when it appeared in January. Seaching for news about the “jungle girl” even got on the top of the search engine statistics for a while.

Then it all turned silent.

No more news about the jungle girl.

So I wonder: Whatever happened to her?

I have absolutely no idea. Were they able to prove that she was identical to the lost daughter? How did the psychiatrists conclude? In short: What happened after the reporters left the little village in Cambodia?

I have tried to search for information, but cannot find anything. Neither Google News nor Technorati can help me. The “jungle girl” is no longer in the news.

So I ask you: Does anyone know what happened to this story?

I am eager to know.

I think it is a phony staff where sometimes to draw attraction and entice tourists to visit that particular nation. In these days creating “excitement” or “weird” actions draw attention. Don’t they?

  2. medotblog Says:

Why don’t u go there personally and report the situation?

isn’t the purpose of having blog reporters?

    Medotblog,

I certainly would if I had the opportunity. I think it often makes interesting reading to look at “forgotten” stories and what happened after the media attention ceased. Unfortunately I don’t think I will have the chance to report on this particular story, though, at least not in the near future.
