Bloggers reports live from violent East Timor

March 4th, 2007

Violence has erupted again in East Timor. In the capital city Dili a foreign blogger gives his daily and dramatic report.

Australian peace keepers today stormed an East Timor rebel base. However, rebel leader Alfredo Reinado is still at large. East Timor president Xanana Gusmao now threatens to use emergency measures to quell continuing unrests in the capital Dili.

The blog Dili-gence is worth catching up on if you are interested in the dramatic news now taking place in Asia’s youngest nation. Dili-gence describes itself as “random observations from an English speaking foreigner in Dili, Timor-Leste”.

These days it makes very interesting reading as the blogger describes daily life in a city of violent turmoil.

Another blogger reporting from Dili calls herself Tumbleweek. The writer is a volunteer currently residing in Dili.

She writes:

To watch Timor slide back once again into chaos has been like observing a piece of bean curd slide slowly down a slanted plate, inching downwards, slowed only by its wetness, and then suddenly last night, that piece of curd gained momentum and hit the bottom with impact, shattering into million pieces of useless fluffy curd… sigh…. what’s worse is when you’re in the next room seeing all this and can’t open the door to go in to put your hand out to save the fate of the curd…
