Another crime for Aung San Suu Kyi

January 19th, 2007

She has already been accused of most crimes that can be imagined. Now the Burmese regime has added tax evasion to the list.

One could almost think it is a comedy show, but it is not: The government makes up one accusation after each other, none of them carries even a minimum of credibility. She is a thief, a murderer, a traitor. Now also a tax evader, according to The New Light of Myanmar, a government newspaper.

Aung San Suu Kyi’s latest supposed crime is having spent the money from the 1991 Nobel Peace Price abroad rather than at home, writes The New York Times.

But the strong woman has been in house arrest for 11 of the past 17 years. She has been kept under control day after day, just because she won the votes of the people. It is hard to imagine has she has even had the opportunity to do all the crimes.

Yet The New Light of Myanmar writes:

“If she is sentenced to prison terms for all the offenses she has committed, she will never get out of the jail in her life.”

It is bullshit, of course. And the writing of a crippled regime which is starting to realize that its days are counted.

The “criminal” is the hero in this case.

Besides, evading taxes from a brutal military regime which has stolen the govenment power from the people can hardly be called a crime.

    Dear John,
The best way is to prove it, put on trial and sentence instead of acusing this and that.
Wehave seen a lot of peple was sentenced to the prison terms where they can not get out of the jail for the rest of their lives.

First of all, we’ll have to ask whether there is a fair and credible taxation system in Burma under this military regime or whatever form of government we have before.

If the answer is yes then we should ask how much tax have Than Shwe paid so far? Isn’t it public knowledge that the monthly salary Than Shew and his four millions thieves are such and such but how would one reconcile, let alone other wealth, the affordability of the diamonds that Than Shwe’s daughter wore on her wedding. They must neither eat nor respond to the call of nature to save up, don’t you think?

  3. Sandvand Says:

I am no expert on the tax system in Burma. But whether the system is fair or not, in this case it seems pretty obvious to me that the charges agains Aung San Suu Kyi are indeed politically motivated.

Although spdc is threatening Aung San Suu Kyi for tax evasion the amount of money spend on spdc Chief General Than Shwe’s daughter wedding where tons of genuine diamonds are displayed is more questioning. Don’t they? Where all the money came from? General’s pay is in millions of US dollars? This is what I call the theives themselves shout theif! theif! to the public scenario. Following link is the profound proof of what’s happening in Burma/Myanmar. During the democratic era in Burma in a family of 5, if one person work (father) and the rest 4 family members do not need to work! That much prosper and that is why the world’s famous writer Kipling once wrote in his book “The road to Mandalay” quote….this is Burma (Myanmar) it is unlike any place in the world, end quote.

Warning! some scenes are very graphic so viewer discretion is advised. Sorry, it is in Burmese language versionbut a picture tells a thousand words, don’t they?

Here is the link of true crimes against the entire humankind contributing global warming in a very big way. Unless imposing systematic fair logging laws and enforcing effectively, humans are creating suicidal behaviors because of selfish and greedy personals the entire home/earth we live in will be destroy. Under the rule of spdc Burma had submit herself to self destruction. What a idiotic way to destroy their own nation for foreigners (Chinese) to prosper. China is reaping every benefit of the once very fertile nation Burma/Myanmar. Pictures tell a thousand stories.
