Today, six years ago, nine French naval engineers and technicians have been killed in Pakistan. It was not an accident. There were targeted with a bomb on the bus which has collected them at their hotel. They were their to help Pakistanese Navy to use submarines. So, Why ? Are not the Islamic fundamentalists interested to have a strong and independent country ? What a shame on them !

In Myanmar, after the terrible cyclone, the military junta prefers to block the international aid than to have not a full control on it. May be, a lot of Burmese will have that in mind on May 10 referendum if their vote is free

Chinese demonstrators in Paris

April 20th, 2008

Yesterday, 19 April 2008, around 4,000 Chinese, mainly students, living in France have demonstrated in Paris, supporting the Olympic Games, condemning the French government and Reporters without border. They were repeating the official slogans of China government.

They said that Tibet is an internal question and that the question of human rights in China has not to be discussed by others countries. One student said that the tempo of increasing democracy in China is a home affair.

As a journalist, in response asked if they think that there is too much freedom in France, a female Chinese student said “yes”, but it is the French democracy that allowed her to demonstrate against the French government with no problem.

What could happened if French citizens demonstrate Tiananmen Square criticizing the Chinese government ? Prison or expulsion ?

I am very worry about the situation in Tibet, in the areas with strong Tibetan population in China and for the Tibetan I saw beaten in foreign countries.
.
.

Maybe it was the good time to attrack attention on Tibet difficult cultural indentity, but I am so afraid of the Chinese brute response, even if they know that all the world is watching them and the numberous desmonstrations all over the world demanding the boycott of the Beijing Olympics
.
.

Today, In Malaysia PM, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi unveiled his new cabinet list. Even if there is a certain opening, I am not sure that it will save his poor achievements.
.
.
In Japan, The proposed new governor of the Bank of Japan had been blocked by oppostion who lead the Upper House. Japan is experimenting what is coexistence. The current PM will have hard time

Today is Asia Observer Sandwand founder birthday. He is 45 years. Soon mature (Ha ! ha !)

Hi John what was the birthday of A.O. ?

John, thanks to you, we have this wonderfull tool for learning, exchanging, fighting, discussing… on Asia. I joined you just one year ago and you gave me a way to learn (I will never finish) and express my fillings and points of views, as all your friends (even if they are fighting each others)

You gave me a good lesson. One day I wrote to you because I was shocked that a political movement using killings has its word on A.O. You answered me that the A.O. freedom politics and you were right.

I am also proud that one day you asked me to become a moderator on A.O. Your trust is very important for me.

I take the opportunity to congratulare all our members maintening A.O. on life. We need all of you, even if have not the same approch.

It’s late in the night (as usual) and I have to go to bed

My son is a comedian in Nice, 800 km from my home. He was here these last days with his company performing in the closed city of Vannes

So I was very busy going to the theater, dining late with the comedians, discussing full night on how to change the world and accomodating two of the poorest at my home with again long discussions

It is in this contest that arrived the forums discussions on where Tibet has to be put in the forums. I apologize for maybe too short answers. I also apologize to Warazein for not yet answer to his question on the French Doctor currently French Foreign minister on his Burma diplomacy. I will do in the week

Tomorrow morning, I early take a train to Paris and I have to work to prepare the tomorrow “On this day”

See you soon

Sorry for these few days without my today mood. I was very busy

Today, I was attracted by a forum written by one of our members asking why we have not a forum on Tibet. I answered that I opened one a long time ago in “China, Hong Kong and Taiwan”

But another member said that means that I consider Tibet as a part of China. No, but as an ordinary member of A.O. where do you think I had to put ?

I have to tell you something, but please keep it secret. When I was a French official, I have been in charge of lunchs withe the Chinese embassy number 2. Every time she (he) insisted that I have to said to my government and French people that Tibet (and Taiwan) are part of China.

Every time, I suggested to her (him) that Beijing has to deal with the current Dalai Lama before it could be too late after his death

Some technical troubles on Asia Observer have deleted my last blog. It is not so important.

This week, I am at home, on the see side. I am late to launch the spring sowing. But today, we have a storm, the wind is 140 km per hour. So I stay inside. You can have some views of my garden in “Featured members”

The last main fact in Asia these last days is the general elections in Malaysia. I think it is good that the ruling coalition got a debacle. I will analyse that in my next “Jacques eye on Asia”. Mabe tonight.

I wonder why it need a so long time to have a new government in Pakistan after the last elections. I have to ask to Zia

Cheers

So, Yesterday I talked on Radio France International about China. It was on the opening of the new National Assembly, and the current problems of that country

Last week, I falled in love of a picture I saw at the bottom on A.O. front page and published on Flickr by an Mexican photographer named Alejandra Ramirez. All her pictures are of a very high quality

I Love this one called Inocencia. She is a small Hmong girl living in northern Vietnam. That reminds me that when I was living in northern Laos, my son was born there. The day of his baptism, we did it with Hmong villagers and that day I became the godfather a Hmong baby girl. After I came back to France, I lost her trace because the Italian missionary who was our link died in a traffic accident. Maybe she is in a refugees camp in Thailand and among the ones that Thai authorities want to force to return to Laos against their will. What a shame
