I have been very moved by John congratulations.
Yes, “On this day in Asian history” is one year old. I started it as a try from nothing, just my books and lectures. At the beginning, I just took an event on this day in Asian history with explanations and a picture (click on start on the page line of this forum) but I quickly saw that on some days, there was several important facts in Asian history, so some ones will wait several years to be on line. So after some weeks, I changed my mind and decided to put all the events I could find with a link to illustrate them
It started slowly, taking daily, up today, several hours of my time. By the same time, I launched some others forums like “Asia political cartoons” or “Picture of the day” which after 15 minutes of search could bring several hundred hits for Asia Observer. So I was sometimes discouraged and tired, but I refused to renounce
Slowly, the number of hits rised up, and from February 2008, daily 350 hits grew to 1017 in June (with only 850 in July and August, maybe few people bring their computer on the beach). But by the way, “On this day in Asian history” has been hit more than 185,000 times in one year, so we can hope more than 400,000 next year
Today, with the events, plus the links On this day is a 560 pages document in Word format, and I have a lot of work to improve it
With a more relaxed position now, I will have more time for the other forums such as “Jacques eye on Asia” or the blog. I apologize to the A.O. users who send me messages with no answers who needed some time. I will come back to each of them in the coming days.
