IMF 'agrees' Pakistan rescue deal
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has agreed a $7.6 billion loan to stave off Pakistan's debt repayment crisis, a senior Pakistani finance official has said. Karzai ready to meet Taliban chief
Hamid Karzai, the Afghan president, has said he will go to "any length" to protect Mullah Omar, the fugitive leader of the anti-government Taliban, in exchange for peace. Japan slides into recession
Japan has fallen into a recession for the first time since 2001, new government figures have shown.
