14 NOVEMBER 1947 : UNITED NATIONS NAMES A COMMISSION IN CHARGE TO ORGANIZE ELECTIONS IN KOREA
The kingdom of Korea was occupied in 1905, and annexed in 1910 by Japan
In February 1945, at the Yalta conference, it was decided that Soviet Union would attack the Japanese troops northern to the 38th parallel and the US south to it.
After the defeat of Japan, all the territories taken by force by Japan have been return to their prior owners (Taiwan to China, Hong Kong to the British…), but to whom return Korea ? So Korea was put under UN and on December 1945, the Great Powers decided that Korea would be reunified after five years.
It is under Korean people that, on 6 September 1947, the United Nations adopted a resolution for elections in the two parts of Korea and an only one government. The process begun on 14th November 1947

16 NOVEMBER 1997 : MOST FAMOUS CHINESE DISSIDENT WEI JINGSHENG IS FREED
Born on 20 May 1950 in Beijing, Wei Jingsheng has been very active in 1978 Beijing Spring in which he became famous for an article named “The fifth modernization” in which he said that the Four modernizations program of Deng Xiaoping is not enough and that China needs a fifth modernization : democracy.
In the last edition of an underground magazine called Exploration, he wrote an article named “Democracy or a new dictatorship ?” in which he said that Deng Xiaoping also will be a dictator. Three days later, on 29 March 1979, he was arrested and sentenced to 15 years.
Released on 14 September 1993, he is arrested again on 31 March 1994 and sentenced to 14 years under the charge of counter-revolution.
Under the pressure of president Bill Clinton, he was freed on 16 November 1997, officially for medical reasons and boarded in a plane to the USA http://www.weijingsheng.org/wei/en.html

19 NOVEMBER 1917 : BIRTH OF INDIRA GANDHI
Indira Gandhi has no family link with the leader of India independence Mohandas Gandhi, but she was the daughter of the first Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to whom she was a personnel assistant.
She has been Prime Minister twice. The first time was from 1966 to 1977. During this period she led India in a close relationship with Soviet Union, applied a socialist program and accelerated the national nuclear program.
She was accused of tendencies towards authoritarism after obtening from the president, a political ally, a State of Emergency on 26 June 1975. She ordered the arrest of all opposants, including from her own party and grant herself extraordinary powers.

21 NOVEMBER 2006 : HISTORIC PEACE ACCORD BETWEEN NEPAL’s GOVERNMENT AND MAOIST GUERRILLA
An Historic Peace accord have been signed between Nepal’s Premier Girija Prasad Koirala and Prachanda, head of the maoist guerrilla on 21 November 2006.
This civil war caused more than 12,500 dead in ten years. Lead by Prachanda, the guerrilla with 10,000 to 15,000 fighters control large parts of the country, mainly in west rural areas.
They often paralyzed the country and particulary Katmandu with general strikes and they demand the abolition of Monarchy
