WE CAN CHANGE THE WORLD 1 Year, 3 Months ago Karma: 19

We as asians suffer the same unequal treatments
from whatever governments we have..
but ordinary people can change the world..
I believe that this article fits us most
What is happening in Burma inspired me to
post this article and will continue
to research on organizations featuring in
helping us ease the heavy yoke that
has been burdened to us by our
own politicians.

Capitalism, communism, and socialism have all led to societies in which a small elite holds the money and the cards. The elite see themselves as the source of the good in society, and see ordinary people as a passive mass or a dangerous problem. We are all taught to see people this way.
To change the world we must see it in a new way. Contrary to the elite vision, ordinary working people are the source of whatever good exists in this society; the elite are the source of the problems. Far from being a passive mass, most people in their everyday lives struggle to shape the world with better values than the values of the system.

Capitalism concentrates money and power in the hands of the few. Like communism, it is undemocratic to the core. We live in a fake democracy, in which the government, the large corporations, and the media are controlled by a ruling class. "Democracy" has been reduced to pulling a lever every four years for some politician promising that he or she will really change things.

"when i was a young man i wanted
to change the world
I found it was difficult
to change the world
so i tried to change my nation

when i found i couldn't
change the nation
i began to focus on my town
i couldn't change the town
and as an older man
i tried to change my family

now as an old man
i realized that i could only
change myself
and suddenly i have realize
that if long ago
i had changed myself

i could have made
an impact on my family

my family and i
could have made an impact
on our town.

their impact could have
changed the nation
and i could indeed have
changed the world

I wanted to introduce our very own
GAWAD KALINGA IN THE PHILIPPINES

next...

ordinary people can change the world

Yes we can change the world, but we have to take models. In Asia there are a lot of false and genuine democraties. Philippines are voting today, but how many people have been killed because their convictions ?. In Hong Kong a small number of people select the chief of Executive. In singapore le PAP has 96 of the 98 members of the parliament.

To change Asia, and not the word, because Africa and South America are very difficult to deal, you have to copy the thrue model of democracy In Europ.

hi jacques

i agree, but in times of troubles
we can rely on our inner strength
pray to our God whatever His name and
whatever we conceive Him to be,
own sound mind and good dispositions
as we await the light of dawn

don't you agree?

Hi Linsi,

I agree with you. You have to help yourselve with the help of God what the name given to Him. But he don't speak to you or to me directly, so we have to look and decide by ourself what it is good for our countries and the way to get it. In the world there are a few number with a genuine democratie, so I suggest to take these ones as a model.

Is it my imagination or have there been a lot more very interesting, thought-provoking posts lately?

I thought this one was particularly interesting...and loved the mini-poster thanks Linsi!

No imagination at all, Sremmah!
We have Linsi - and many others as well - who contribute great posts all the time.
And I am sure there are more to come!

Philippines is a third world country. We are behind in terms of economies but personally I take pride in the Filipinos genuine concern for one another.

Gawad Kalinga's success in improving the quality of life of thousands of poor families in the Philippines is a living testimony of our innate compassion for the needy. They exist not to promote mendicancy and indolence but to inculcate self-reliance and self-sufficiency in every Filipino household. This NGO has become a model of other organizations both local and international in terms of sustainable development programs.

GK believes that Filipinos can help themselves in alleviating their life conditions in a very personal and meaningful way. I'm proud that I have been able to contribute my time and resources to their cause in the past. I intend to commit more in the future.

To change the world, Jacques is right, we need a model.
I also believe that to be able to see what we need to change, we need to see and calibrate our perspective from "outside the box". Change is hard to accept if immediately imposed so education is part of the key and gradual change is achieved.

I am a proud supporter of Gawad Kalinga as well.
Long Live!

hi sremmah

don't mention it, i am just glad that we have the opportunity to share to the world how ordinary people can change things.I am overwhelmed by the sacrifices and hardships of our own people in Asia, we need things like this, and as what jacques stated.. a model/models.

hi john

from the very beginning i have told you my goal-
in my own small way, to share what would be very beneficial for all of us,try to be impartial as much as possible so that i think that all of us here in AO would learn and strengthen one another, a simple ordinary asian here thank you so much

i also commend warazein and gyogoat TS.. with the exemptionally strong expositions of others like truthseeker et al... and to all specially the pinoys who remain open minded and still cheerful inspite of all the things in the Philippines..

I donot really get a personal experience with GAWAD KALINGA, due to my absence, but close friends working and helping the organization told me about it, the popularity by virtues have spread around like fire, igniting those who are sad and hopeless...

next.. the Tzu Chi Foundation- Buddhist Compassion Relief
