This question just popped up while I'm browsing online. I'd like to get your thoughts on this argument:

Is joining online communities a waste of time or time well spent?

Personally, it's time well spent. Why? For two basic reasons: I get to learn a lot from the discussions I participate in Forums; and I meet new people from diffrent parts of the globe each day. I find this really fun and exciting.



You know, I've gained a number of friends through the years, thanks to my online existence.

How about you?

It all depends on your personal situation and interests, I think.
Some use online communities as their main social arena.
That's not me. I rather spend quality time with my friends face to face.
But I love communities with a purpose which fits my interests. Asia Observer is one of those. Here I meet other people who are genuinely interested in what is going on in the most dynamic region of the world. That is no waste of time, but a great opportunity.

I wish Asia Observer the very best and will for sure keep coming back to the community! I just wish it will keep growing!

No, definitely, this is not time wasting.

I must say that joining any communities’ forum is time well spent.

This is a place where you can exchange your view, and your thoughts with each other even you have different ideology and thoughts.

Some used this kind of forum for propagator and some used as THE place to express your thoughts, your feelings and FRUSTRATIONS.

This is THE place where you can refute and express your view on any messages posted.

Here you cannot write one sided affairs, even if you write, I am sure somebody will question your views.

I think I have some idea why brought up this topics.

Even in this forum, you can see somebody was mentioning about Freedom of Speech, Human Rights, Democracy etc, but in reality, he is accusing, those who have different views of TIME WASTING.

I am sure that you will agree with me that even in your own house, you have different ideas and thoughts.

For me, it is the place where you can share your view and gain friendship.

I couldn't agree with you more, thakinmyo, kevin! Asia Observer is right here to give us a good alternative place to exchange insights and information. Staying here is definitely a time well spent!

This is THE PLACE to discuss from politics to nonsense.

I like this forum, because I can refute/discuss with others about the facts whether it is correct or not.

I can discuss with others about the situation of our beloved country Myanmar.

Some times, with a little bit of sense of humors, you can see some people talking about anything without any facts or true facts.

Anyway, this is open to all and you will all type of people with various ideas and thinking. Some, you may like it and some you don’t, but it is INPOLITE to say that they are wasting their time, when you see some one posted what is opposite to your view or what you don’t like.

Remember FREEDOM OF SPEECH and let’s continue to contribute our thoughts to this wonderful forum.

I also like to meet new people from the online community, but I don't like using the computer. I enjoy reading people's postings if they're thoughtful and respectful. Some people post a thread and ask peoples' opinions, but then get into long arguments because they insist on getting the last word. One suspects that they never really wanted to get other peoples'thoughts at all--just wanted "to hear themselves talk". That's fine, but I sometimes read postings that get unpleasant, and I think that this will drive people away from forums. I don't like to see people being mean to those who are less assertive.
