About universal suffrage-

As an ordinary resident here, hong kong has never been used to universal suffrage.Under the British Rule, it is governed by a governor from Britain and people are used to it.

It has been practicing a governing body of legislators patterned after Britain and people generally donot care about politics because hong kongers passion is geared towards economic freedom and not universal suffrage
or politics. Hong kong in general is "APOLITICAL" contrary to what is written in the newspapers. Only the democratic sectors or pro-democracy legislators
are pushing towards it and I donot see anything wrong in it.

But Hong kong in general is more comfortable with its soaring
economy and it makes majority of the citizens more inclined to business than politics. Economy makes hong kong more complacent towards politics.(which i think is a negative
index on the other hand)

About Shenzhen
In my experience, it will not surpass hong kong. Cheap commodities are there as many fake goods are flooding its market .

One time we went there and bought a dvd player- the sales talk was good when we come back to hong kong, the player we bought was good only for three days.
Ugh!—

Services are cheaper yes- but I would never go back for them not even for their merchandize.

Yes Linsi,

The poeople of Hong Kong are generaly apolitical. The British never invited them to take part of the decision making.

But after Tian'anmen for the first time they went in mass in the street and Chris Patten, the last governor try to change the things traying to change the law for giving them some garanties.

But China warned that all change no in accordance with her Hong Kong Basic law will be cancelled after the recovery

hi jacques,
hope you could share us about your interview,

There was an interview at the atv news about hong kong
10 years after, between journalists Paul Harris and
Time Magazine Editor Zoher Abdoolcarim-

Paul's comment was: the speech censorship bringing
class control in hong kong

at the end he stated that he detests the communist
party

on the other hand Zoher had a different view

he stated that china is opening
and the people have more voice on the streets
tackling about universal suffrage
pollution
heritage
etc and that much remains the same

except for anti-subversion law-

He also stated that Time magazine has
never been censored about its write ups
of hong kong.

The anchorman told Paul that no one
has arrested him in speaking up
