26 NOVEMBER 1937 : JAPANESE TAKE SHANGHAI

The Battle of Shanghai, or Battle of Songhu, was maybe the biggest between the Imperial Japanese Army and the troops of Republic of China

It srated on August 13. Dogged Chinese resistance at Shanghai aimed at stalling the rapic Japanese advance giving to move vital industries to the interior

After a heroic resistance, at the end, Shanghai fell on 26 November and China lost a significant portion of its best troops

Xiaozong has been the 17th emperor of the China Song dynasty, and the 2nd emperor of the Southern Song.

His personnal name was Zhao Shen.

29 NOVEMBER 1427 : BIRTH OF CHINESE EMPEROR ZHENGTONG

Zhu Qizhen, eldest son of emperor Xuande, was born on 29 November 1427 and enthroned in February 1435 with the era name of Zhengtong

On 5 September 1449, at the age of 22, as he was fighting the Mongols of Esen Khan at the Battlle of Tumu Fortress, he was captured. He became a friend to the khan who, because he caught apoplexy, freed him.

While he was prisoner, his brother Zhu Qiyu took the power as emperor Jinghai and when Zhengtong came back, he was put under arrest for almost seven years.

In February 1457, Zhengtong took advantage of his brother illness for despositing him and start a second reign as emperor Tianshun. He died at the age of 37 on 23 February 1465.

He is the one who put an end to the custom which obliged some of the emperor concubines to commit suicide and follow him to the other world.

A member of the Japanese imperial family, he was an uncle of Emperor Hirohito

After attending the Tokyo Milit ary Academy he was assigned to Paris as military attaché from 1925 to 1927 and became a full general in 1939

Two days after the Japanese defeat, Emperor Hirohito asked him to form a new cabinet, but he resigned two months later

He died on 20 January 1990, 102 years old
