31 OCTOBER 1887 : BIRTH OF CHIANG KAI-SHEK

Chiang Kai-shek (Jiang Jieshi) was born in Zhejiang and started a military career. After studying in a Japanese military academy, he served in the Imperial Japanese Army from 1909 to 1911.

When he learned the 10 October 1911 Wuchang republican uprising, he came back to China and joined the Republican forces, becoming the next year a founding member of the Kuomintang (KMT) and a closed ally of Sun Yat-sen who gave him the command of the Whampoa (Huangpu) Military Academy in 1924.

When Sun Yat-sen died in 1925, Chiang succeeded him as leader of the KMT and the following year launched the Northern Expedition to defeat the warlords controlling northern China and unify the country under the KMT.

On 12 April 1927, he ordered the killing of all of the Communists in Shanghai who, up to this date, were his allies. In December of the same year he married Soong May-ling, the younger sister of Soong Ching-ling, the widow of Sun Yat-sen.

In 1936, after being kidnapped by general Zhang Xueliang at Xi’an, he was obliged to stop his campaigns against the communist bases and to make an United Front with them for fighting the Japanese invaders.

After the defeat of Japan, begun the Civil War which was won by the communist forces in 1949. Chiang fled to Taiwan where he died on 5 April 1975.

6 NOVEMBER 2007

6 NOVEMBER 2005 : MYNMAR CAPITAL MOVED TO PYINMANA

On that day, the military junta of Myanmar begins moving its government ministries from Yangon to Pyinmana, an 100,000 population city, situated in Mandalay Division, around 320 km north of Yangon

The military never said why they changed the capital place

Someones said that Than Shwe, the junta leader is afraid of an U.S. attack, as they did in Irak and that this remote place is more difficult to attack than Rangoun.

Pyinmana area is also the place where was based the Burma National Army, trained by the Japanese military, but that in 1945 turned against them with Aung San as a leader.

So Pyinmana, is an icon in the Burmanese Army and could be the reason of the choice.
