I had already the same problem as Linsi and wrote to John about that.

A solution could be that the user who share an article could edit it as we can do with the forums and to modify it.

Linsi,

I understand your problem - and we will try to find a solution for it. Once Dice8up has gotten of to a good start as webmaster, this will be one of the first issues.

Cheers,

thanks john

I would like to comment on photos posted on the front page in the shared article- when you suggested alignment about images.. how about the sizes of the pictures or images being posted?

I think a standard measurement is ideal.

hope to hear from the admins.

thanks

For the moving images John did a very job with new pictures.

In my last shared article, I made a mistake about the size on Flick

About the emoticons some more choice could be necessary. For instance crying when I saw all my mistakes on A.O.

I think improving the functionality of shared articles is the main priority for development this fall.

So let me challenge you: Please give me a list of functionalities you desire! Probably we will change the all "share articles" component, so any ideas are welcome

Linsi rised 2 questions

1) The general appearence of the front page. She likes it to be more attractive. For me It's OK like that. The front page have to be clear no specialy attractive. The current situation is good.

2) A mean to put the frontpage more attractive is to put pictures in the shared articles. Linsi launched it and it was very good. I followed after a lot of failures. Others members are doing that way now. For the shared articles, she just rised the question of the size of the picture. And she is right about the size, but I think that after some tries, every one could find the good one.

Sometimes ago, the forums system has been deeply modify. It was necessary. But for the shared articles I think that it is not necessary or a not priority. Members are to be reasonable. Leave all your members to express themselve. For what I am concerned, I limit myself to two shared articles each day. If every active member share two articles every day we will have a large scale of points on Asia

Hello all ..

Talking about mistakes, I just did the article today about Time magazine should refer to IT'S ALL IN THE FAMILY instead of THE FAMILY'S FIRM ( I want to put crying emoticons but I cannot find it ... T-T )
Yup John, would be good if we can edit the article instead of re-submitting the article, it would be a waste of space.

My suggestion at this moment :
1. Edit tab for shared article
2. I wonder if you have a 'life cycle' for an article, means that after a short period of time, the article will be out of screen, saved in AO 'library' .. and maybe you can do the same for forums, whenever an inactive forum meets its 'life cycle', it will be closed and stored in AO archive ..

That's all so far, hope to see more improvements coming.

I received a lot of personnal messages, but I cannot see more than the last ten ones in my inbox. For the outbox there no problem. Why it is working in one way not in the other way ?

I rised the problem several days ago to John and Richard but the problem is always there

As I wrote to John when he was on vacations, the A.O. message system is bad. If we want to exchange pictures or joint articles with others users we are obliged to exchange our personnal E-mail adress. Why not directly with A.0. ?

hi john

let me answer the concerns jacques has raised.

1.The general appearance of the front page.
We can refer to other more well sought news website
such as the bbc, msn, cnn etc.. given the readers
a more interesting glimpse upon seeing it- they have
small 48K images in colors and pictures that express
contents and directories-- which gives a high face value
to the site- the front page is the welcoming invitational
room for surfers-

others who browse the net and come across AO would be more
interested to join and contribute-if we have similar implications to readers-

It does not mean AO would immitate similar lay-outs as is,like a photocopy ( oh no! ^__^) - but AO can achieve a better impression given icons and images
as what other popular news websites do- .=

there are many popular news websites, let us remember that-

Doing this does not mean it does not give clarity- but rather in my own personal opinion it adds much more to catch the interest of all people wether they are journalist or just
an ordinary internet surfer.

As i observe, jacques is more on geo-politics- a hard bound
type typical of those who are writers, and that is excellent! but not all are writers, we are aiming for readers,a general patronage basis, education through informations, and many more to more people of all ages-

well, this is just my thought-

Remember, even jacques has posted that at first he was not interested with AO- this proves that the first impression was not impressive at all to him- if there is any other reason why he became active it was beneath the first sight which others donot have-

we aim to catch every reader as much as possible-

i would respect whatever the decisions of the admins-

There is a point and i agree to the posted answer here

but let us remember that the shared articles are news and features- and net surfers would choose a more pionered, popular site by way of trust and habit. Why would others
go away from bbc or cnn, etal if they can get all what they wanted and be satisfied with all the embeded news and featured videos, ang news galleries and updated round the clock events?

The shared articles in AO must be interesting enough in all angles beause readers can get current updated round the clock news from well eshtablished news sites..so there must be a variety which is different from the ordinary, i think it has to be modified-

a good illustration is a salad- there are many kinds of salads but the arrangements and the topings make it unique

about being reasonable-
AO is still a neophyte compared to the bbc etal- and the first days of posting were kind of slow, the readers must
feel that there is somebody filling up informations in the
page-there must be life-

so- those who have the passion to work for it posted a lot and that is good for the AO site-( as what jacques was formerly doing)

we haven't even reached 10 posters posting different kinds of news out of hundreds registered- and also when one gives a lot of shared articles readers have more informations and options- we therefore see that the most popular article take the most number of hits and votes- i donot see any problem with that since the memory bytes for the text and fonts are pressumably large- and articles are therefore being sorted out in the front page, and retained as the most popular ones.

shall we wait for others to post in the front page?
if ever i come across a very interesting
news aside and after sharing 6 articles, will i set it aside because i have posted much?

when one does it, then he/she controlled informations to flow in- specially when others donot contribute at all leaving the front page hanging sort of wanting-

i think readers must be given as much and give them the freedom to read , the memory for articles as i observed is
quite big- so everyone can post, am i right john? correct me please.

The forums on the other hand must be given much steering energy. when the message board does not get much discussions
from posters and it is dominated by the same poster such as
i do

then that means nobody is interested to engage
and therefore we donot have enough basis to evaluate
wether the topics we made are worth the readings-

one forumer sent me message and the observation was
it was boring because it is always copied and pasted
through the links without much personal ideas.
