Linsi,
Is it why you have a veil on your face ?
Why is it in muslim countries that women are the most degrated ? I think to the girls raped on order of village councils in Afghanistan as the price of a revenche ? A girl in Pakistan has been gang raped as an honor debt because her brother had a non marriage sexual relation with a girl.
But generaly speaking, I am also against the use of the body of women to sold soap or something else.
Maybe because the body of women is the most wonderfull of what God did.

going back to the main topic, let us see
per paragarph what really is the meading of
all of these.
Liberation by the Veil
http://www.jannah.org/sisters/hijbene.html
Modesty and chastity , very important ideologies with Islam, are achieved by prescribing standards on behavior and the dress of a Muslim. A woman who adheres to the tenements of Islam is required to follow the dress code called Hijab, other synonymes are Veil, Purdah, or just Covering. It is an act of faith and establishes a Muslim's life with honor, respect and dignity. The Hijab is viewed as a liberation for women, in that the covering brings about "an aura of respect" (Takim, 22) and women are recognized as individuals who are admired for their mind and personality, "not for their beauty or lack of it" ( Mustafa ) and not as sex objects.
i hope i can get some comments before i give
my own which ruth has contributed some of her thoughts.
-
I think Respect does not go with covers. Respect is earned
and not taken in an instant due to coverings of all sorts.-
A woman can dress fashionably and still earn respect by the
way she lives her life. When she knows how to respect others
and she knows how to be respectable.

in this paragraph
the dress code when worn is an act of faith eshtablishing
a muslim's life with honor, respect and dignity thus recognizing women as individuals because of the covering.
does it all boil down to dress coding? and covering?

More about women...
Why most women shun powerful positions
PETALING JAYA: Most women shun from assuming powerful positions because of family obligations and commitments, said Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen.
“The biological and motherhood roles of women are some of the factors that put women off from sitting at the top of the management level,” she said.
It won't be easy but a balanced proportion of men and women in top management in all industries would be a nice achievement, she said.
“It is surprising that 67% of varsity graduates are female and yet, when it comes to the workforce, it is the complete opposite.
“Most of these top management posts are still dominated by men.
“For instance, in Parliament only 10% of members are women,” she said after launching the Merdeka Craft Fun Fair here.
Dr Ng, who is Wanita MCA chief, was commenting on party secretary-general Datuk Ong Ka Chuan’s statement that women deserved more than the 30% quota the movement had asked for in the decision-making level.
On the fair, Dr Ng said the effort and initiative put in by the students of The One Academy to build the “Sens of Pride,” a three-dimensional Malaysian flag created from 70,000 pieces of 50-sen coins, was a clear reflection of the Merdeka spirit.
The fair is on until Sept 2 at the Sunway Pyramid shopping mall concourse area.
