Intercultural marriages, do they work? 1 Year, 1 Month ago Karma: 6
What can you say about intercultural marriages? Do they actually work? What's the secret to a marriage of two people with different culture and core values? What are the pros and cons?

I'm particularly interested in getting views from people who are actually in this kind of marriage. But if you got friends or relatives who are married to a foreigner, your contribution to the topic is well appreciated.

Personally, I have a few friends who are married to foreigners. One is married to an American. Another friend is married to a Singaporean. Both marriages are going strong thus far. The friend who has the American husband credits her happy marriage to their common values and guess what's the other one? Their sense of humor. The latter one is one thing that's common to both of them that's why they clicked.

How about other marriages? What if they have differing religion? Is conversion to the spouse's religion a need or an option?

thai ladies in this article have language barriers?
wouldn't it be difficult not to understand and communicate with each other, a thai lady and a western guy? or european guy?

that is difficult!

First, we'd better distinguish "Disguised" marriage & "Normal" marriage. The first ones (for various reasons & the most common one is well-known) will hardly work.

For the "Normal" marriage, the question is rather on Marriage itself. AND, Communication is the core of the problem where Communicate is an ART.

BUT, this problem is NOT only reserved for couple of different origins. For "mixed" couple, each would make more efforts to understand the other & not being able to speak out all might avoid disputes...

In Chinese, we say "Married by Mis-understanding & separate by knowing each-other well

Hi Caroline,

I agree with you. There are love marriages and arranged marriages with no love. In my country we call "Miss passeport" the chinese girls who try to marry westerner only for having a better life oversee.

But I think interacial weddings could be well working if everyone take care of the other culture
