I was exchanging some US dollars to peso last week then I was confronted just yet again by the state of our currency. For a dollar, you have to exchange that with 47 pesos or so.

One hundred pesos have become so little that sometimes it can no longer suffice your needs for a day. The glory days of Philippine Peso have long ended since our economy started deteriorating four government regimes ago.

But can you still remember how much the Philippine Peso was worth before? Gone are the days when I could have a jeepney ride for 1 peso fare. When I was a kid, I could hoard chewing gums for they were only 5 cents each then.

How about you? How much can you recall?

Back in the days, I recall being able to buy a kilo of top quality rice for P5, Bazooka Joe(bubble gum) was 25c. Coke 1 Liter was around P5.
Oh my... it was a drastic drop of peso value from back then compared to now, ain't it Pokkha?

Now, a decent lunch meal would cost about P70... wow.

My brother shared a memory that apartment rent back then was only P300 a month. I do remember that I was able to buy my crayons for P5. Gelatin for P2 for my school snack...

same feeling here jdam... come to think about it, maybe nothing's changed. People back there would have found the items expensive.

The good old days saw me enjoying ten pesos pocket money to school. With that "little" amount, I could already buy a cheese pimiento sandwich and a Zesto juice at the school canteen. Nowadays, how much a filling snack could cost you? A seventy-five-pesos worth sometimes don't get you satisfied yet.
