Documentary photography of Luang Namtha - Laos.
Started five year ago documenting this remote NW province. It has been isolated until recently, now changing fast. It has the highest number of ethnic diverse villages in Laos. I want to document their lifestyle before and during the coming changes.
Since 2002, I have visited this North west province in Laos dozens of times. It has the highest number of ethnic diverse groups in Laos, and is a must for anyone visiting
Laos. The province is changing rapidly, partly because of the introduction of electricity four years ago, which also brought televison. The new road from Thailand to China passes through the province, and a new airport maybe finished next year. those two infradtructure projects will make it much easier to reach the province, but also will increase the traveller numbers, which in turn will speed up the process of change.
To document the traditional lifestyle of the small villages, and the change they are going through, I spent the past five years photographing them.
For anyone wanting a glimps of this, have a look at my website. I have about 300 pictures uploaded to date, with more following soon.
