Great Books about China that will endure. 9 Months, 4 Weeks ago Karma: 0

First book I'd like to recommend to u is the book called :The
Spirit of Chinese People or The Religion of Good Citizenship.Written by Gu Hongming.

The Book was originally written in English.

So who is this Gu Hongming(1857--1828)?

a Chinese born in Malaysia, recieved education in Edinburgh

University as well in Leipzig University. familiar with

French, Italian, Ancient Greek, Latin, Japanese and Malay, as well as Chinese, English and German. The first Chinese scholar to translate classical chinese philosophical works in to English and German. an advocate of Monarchy and Confucianism. used to be a government official for the old Qing Dynasty, later a professor with Peking University. Literary figures as diverse as Ryūnosuke Akutagawa, Somerset Maugham and Rabindranath Tagore were all drawn to visit him when they came to China.

What about the book?

The book was written in 1915 during the first World War. Mr Gu gave his analysis of the western society and the inevitability of the war, and the remedy of it(certainly it has something to do with Chinese culture.).
