Do you think Taiwan has to join WHO 1 Year, 3 Months ago Karma: 25
Taiwan is not a member of the United Nations and so cannot be a member of its organizations. But Taiwan is a country of more than 24 million people. It has been fighting against Sras and other epidemics.

Do you think Taiwan has to be a member of UN organizations (with a special status) when they are not political, as Word Health Organization ?

I think Taiwan should be allowed to be member of international organizations, even if it has to be with a special status. For all practical reasons Taiwan is a country on its own, although Beijing looks at it in a different way. It is also an economy of significant size.

i agree with kevin.I just read about Taiwan and according to history Taiwan was never a part of China.
China claims that Taiwan is a part of China and therefore it strongly opposes an independent Taiwan thus blocking its membership to the United Nations. Therefore it could not be a member of WHO.

This is a very difficult situaion for Taiwan.

I hope, we could figure out the history of Taiwan in this thread, since Taiwan is in it's difficult task of independently existing. But inspite of it all Taiwan is an asian economic tiger.

Why Taiwan should be allowed to join WHO?
it has all the reasons to be. It is not a
part of China as it's history tells.

Maybe a jigsaw puzzle for Taiwan's history
where China claims otherwise.

To Kewin,

For me it is not the economic weight of Taiwan that justify that Taiwan have to join the WHO, but the size of its population and the necessity of a regional cooperation for epidemics. Some countries, with only some ten of thousands people belong to UN and, so to WHO.

Hi Linsi

I agree with you that Taiwan belonged to China a very short time of its history. The problem is when it was possible to recognise two Germany or two Korea, Mao Zedong and Tchiang Kai-shek had an indentical view : there is only one China. So we have been obliged to have diplomatic relations with only one of them. In 1971, Beijing became the representative of the unique seat of China at the United Nations.

Each time, a country establiss relations with Bejing, it is obliged to recognise that Taiwan is part of China.

Beijing autorize others countries to have economic and cultural relations with Taiwan. Why not in others aspects as health or nuclear control ?

hi jacques

ok now a part of this has become clearer to me, the "THERE IS ONLY ONE CHINA" declaration of both Mao and Chiang,-and as i said it makes the situation difficult for Taiwan.

As for the question above? I strongly believe that taiwan must be allowed to join the WHO this is about health and lives, or else, it will continue to battle diseases with its own capacity, (very difficult situation) But inspite of all these things, Taiwan still stands up and still maintains its economic strength.

hmm why the quote reply did not work for me?
