Why should Myanmar government allows Gambari to co 6 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 1
The week terminated with a statement of UNSC expressing their regret for slow progress. The UNSC tuned down their voice even for openly criticising Myanmar regime far from the strong voice for banding resolution at the same period in 2007. The UN is under intense situation with unclear time frame set for the entry for their special envoy for Myanmar, Gambari - SPDC suggested apparently for mid-April but the UN and EU want immediate visit of Gambari to Myanamr in January.

The question is what will Gambari do in Myanmar?

EU’s envoy said the top priority of Gambari is to seek Aung Sun Suu Kyi’s release. In this case, what will UN and its international Community (IC) will give in return with the release of Aung Sun Suu Kyi?
We want something and we give something – “give and take” there is no give but keep asking for “demands”.

If we think in place of SPDC, suppose that SPDC let come Gambari to the country. What will SPDC gain from Gambari’s visit? – Nothing at all.

SPDC’s Than Shwe said if 4 conditions are met, he would talk to Aung Sun Suu Kyi.
Neither Aung Sun Suu Kyi nor UN+IC replied to his conditions clearly.
Why should SPDC invite Gambari to the country, if there is nothing to gain from Gambari’s mission? SPDC finds no benefits in Gambari’s mission for them.

If UN sincerely wish Gambari’s success in Myanmar case then it should find out a common goal within the IC – China, India, EU and US. The UN should set up concrete goals set together with China, India, EU and US. These common goals should be for breaking the current political deadlock. No miracle exists in the 21st century. If we want something we should give something. Now UNSC is encountering with technical and tactical problems while facing with Generals form Myanmar. Their method of pushing only one side (SPDC) is now producing any kind of results. The UN + IC should set their concrete goals and push both sides with concrete measures and make them understand that both sides need to fulfil these goals set out by UN and IC.

The UN and IC should tell both sides especially the opposition to respect the wishes set by UN and IC.
Gambari should make the opposition side understand that if the latter wants a solution for Myanmar or help from IC, then it must have something to give to the Junta.

Gambari can not go back to Myanmar with empty hands. He must have something to give for the Junta, otherwise Myanmar junta has no reason to allow him to come to the country, why? No interests.

Gambari is wasting money too, he's been shuttling to many countries without producing any results.

The thing is neither he could push the junta to triggering but nor he could advice the opposition to make a triggering point.

However keeping his missin alive we can still let open the channels of communication with the junta.

i will come back again on this point.

The UN should tell the Burmese opposition very openly about the reality - if they would prefer to place the people of Myanmar or to honor the 90 Elections results first!!

Then talk to SPDC very openly what they could compromise and what they could not compromise.

Hiding info from the opposotion or Burmese governmet side is no longer useful.

Dear MHK

NLD choice was confrontational from the very beginning and its always been . They viewed SPDC as their enemy. They are convinced that they have the support they need , and they have no respect for SPDC, not at all, especially by Ma Su Kyi, who has been brought up by English people and married to an Englishman. Away from Myanmar and away from its culture, her attitude and her behaviours are in my view only acceptable outside Myanmar.

NLD is Ma SU Kyi and Ma Su Kyi is NLD. She has been under house arrest under exiting law . She has been detained under a 1975 law designed for “ safe guarding the State from Dangerous Subversive Elements. Unlike Nelson Mandela of South Africa, who was in prison for 27 years, Ma Su Kyi has never been tried or charged or been sent to prison since she was detained in 1989.

In 1994 , September 24, Ma Su Kyi was invited to Defence Services guest house and had a meeting with Sr. Gen Than Shwe. A second meeting took place between Ma Su Kyi and Sec 1 Lt. Gen Khin Nyunt in October 28 1994.

These meetings were business meetings not just social visits. But nothing came out of those meetings. Ma Su Kyi and Sr. Gen Than Shwe fell more apart. Now Lt. Khin Nyunt is out of the picture.

Ma Su Kyi is well known as hard head, stubborn, no compromise attitude. In normal terms, she has an attitude problem. She knows everything she know more than anybody else, because she is educted outside MYanmar especially at Oxford. That is the attitude of some Myanmars more or less.
who have been abroad at least. Street language for that kind of attitude is " Phin Goung Kye ".

She has been advised that, for genuine party democracy to flourish in Myanmar, it will be necessary to work hand in hand with the military. The maintenance of national stability, peace and tranquillity without the participation of the Tatmadaw is extremely risky and dangerous.

SPDC again warned that they will not tolerate any foreign interference saying the people who genuinely love Myanmar are the people of Myanmar , no foreigners will ever love Myanmar . It is all very clear . It is something to think about when foreigners say that they love Myanmar.

Despite all these NLD and it’s followers called foreign nations to put pressures on Myanmar and called for economic sanctions against Myanmar. They meant to show how much they love Myanmar.

NLD is exhausted with everything including political catch phrases or political catch words.

To make the story short, to answer your question of “ The question is what will Gambari do in Myanmar? My answer will be, Mr Gambari might bring some fresh and bright ideas for Ma Su Kyi to defy or confront SPDC some more. Because in the past there were so many foreigners with so many bright ideas going in and out of Ma Su Kyi’s house meeting with Ma Su Kyi without any respect to SPDC or without any respect to the law of the land. That is

“ The UNSC tuned down their voice even for openly criticising Myanmar regime far from the strong voice for banding resolution at the same period in 2007”

If I am not wrong that could be considered as a “ carrot” , especially after the events of September 2007 by those who were in the yellow submarine.

UN cannot put any time frame on Israel to pull out of Palestinian land, Gaza or West bank. US and Britain could not put time frame on themselves to pull out of Iraq.
Yes , US President George W Bush said he will pull out 30, 000 men from Iraq in July 2008, yet he was sending 3000 men to Iraq on the other day. It doesn’t mean he will pull out 33, 000 men in July . Nobody can say he wont send another 27, 000 men to Iraq so that he can keep his promise in July. In Myanmar it is called“ Be Din Be Jay”,
nothing more, nothing less.

I can see your point when you said, “ Gambari should make the opposition side understand that if the latter wants a solution for Myanmar or help from IC, then it must have something to give to the Junta.

IC had never put any pressures in the name of democracy in the name of human rights. If you sing democracy song, If you play human rights tune. You cannot go wrong. Even communist and socialists are coming back with democracy and human rights. Whether you believe it or not is another matter.

But, when SPDC sings the same democracy song, play the same human rights tune. They rejected SPDC for bad voice, and playing out of tune.

You know as much as I do, some times if not most of the time, mediators can cause more problems and make matters worse.

My concern is now NC works are finished , drafting of New Constitution is in progress, as fare as we know.

If Ma Su Kyi and NLD want to cooperate, they should not object to it. They should take the consequences of withdrawing themselves from NC with a smile. They must take part in the future elections and accept the results then.

What is happening in the world today is since US Presidential elections in 2000, between George W Bush and El Gore “ elections are not elections when the opposition does not win, elections are not election when the one supported by the west does not win, election are not elections when won by those who defied the west., elections are not election won by those who are not pro west.

I am also seeing communist nations progressed and developed and prospered without democracy or human right problems.

Why Mr Gambari does not want to come to Myanmar in the midle of April is very clear, because he does not want to see , he is afraid to see Myanmars enjoying Thinjan festable without any worries.

Up to this moment nobody has shown a respect towards SPDC. Mr Ganbari might tsalk to Sr. Gen Than Shwe of SPDC given SG, Than Shwe no room. Mr Gambari comes with preset agenda in favour of Ma Su Kyi. That is why she is still stubborn.

I hope I am wrong.

Thunderbolts.
