Dear All,
Long time no see.
There will always be protests and demonstsrations in any country, on anything, Myanmar which is not exception. Myanmar has to expect more in the future in the name of democracy and human rights.
It is true the Myanmar authorities do not like protests or demonstrations in large scale or small scale. Rather thy like to have written complaints to the ministry concerned. From some people points of view government is afraid these protest march and demonstrations could go out of hands and bring in undesireable consequences or side effects like they had in 1988, destablilising the general situation.
Protests or demonstrations are meant to let the authorities know or bring in to their attentions to a problems , but not to create more problems.
As long as these protests and demonstrations are under control whether by the organisers themselves or by the authorities, everything is going to be fine. That could also be translated as the essense of democracy, the charactors of democracy and human rights.
In other countries, protests and demonstrations are to make a point, but not to drag on days after days. There never was a time where there was no arrest in those countries, at least some people are charged with obstructing public peace.
In my humble opoinion, Myanmar government should take these protests and demonstrations as the people's authorites, given to the government to do something about the problems.
Latest protests and demonstrations by some people are to highlight the fuel prices.
Today in the world market, the price of oil is US$ 74, US$ 75 a barrel . I am not sure whether the protesters and demonstraters in Myanmar realised that.
Myanmar is not producing enough fuel for home consumtion. It has to import some oil. Myanmar gas is sold to other countries. Gas producers in Myanmar are foreigners. They own most oil fields gas fields. Even the hand dig oil fields are in the handsof private owners.
In Myanmar there are two kind of petrol and gas stations. One is government's and the other is private. Twenty to thirty feet from the government shop there is a private shop. Private shops sell their petrol in the plastic container and put it on the chair. When talk about health hazard fire hazard, nobody know what someone is talking about , they don't want to know.
Let's say, the price of a gallon of petrol is K/2000 at government shop, but at the proivate shop it is K/5000.
There are no shortage of buyers at the private shops. They even can get any amount, whilst at the government shop what they can buy is according to the qoota. They don;t use their quotas , they sell them back.
Some people owning a car is a kind of investment in Myanmatr, just to get petrol to sell it back in the white market. ( there is no more black market in Myanmar)
By law it is illegal to store petrol without proper license. Who wants to know the laws in Myanmar? For those who stores barrels of petrol in their garages should not be allowed.
There are lots of things the government can do to tackle the problems. Some of them are from cancelling the register book of the car which fails the ministry's test of the roadworthyness of the car. That will reduce the amount of the bangers on the strees of Myanmar which are wasting petrol. Send them to Steel Factory in Insein for recirculation.
For most cars, a gallon of petrol will give them 35 miles.
which means one gallon of petrol will make Yangon and Insein hourney three and half trips. Wear and tear of the car is next to nothing in Myanmar. Because the cars including government own in Myanmar are only good for scrap. These bangers consumes more fuel than the reasonable cars.
Now the people have pointed out the higher fuel price. That The people have authorised the ghovernment to tackle the problem. Government has to do something, before the all other goods prices go sky rocket.
At the same time the bus owners, and taxi owners , heavy goods vehicals owner to cover their unstoppable greed. they are putting the blame on government petrol or gas price.
Government has put up some prices may be, but they are very much lowere than the private prices. I have never heard of anybody stopped buying higher price fuel from private sellers Myanmar will moan and groan but again nobody ever protested or demonstrated against the high price of the private sellers.
The question is if car owners can buy fuel from private hands by paying higher price, why are they protesting when the government put the price up.
I am sure the opposition knows exactly that APEC summit in Indonesia will take place. To attract the attention of these world leaders oppositions must do something. Protests and demonstration, a few loud voices, what can be more better than that?
Nations go to war , to control the oil, to pocess the oil. to kill the economy of other countries. People are killed and being killed because of oil, sometimes amount to genocide, the whole country is flattened..
In my humble opinion, the people's protest and the people's demonstrations are to be taken as, like I said above, are the authorities by the people given to the government to do something about the problem.
That's all for the moment.
Thunderbolts.
