I have been plannning to visit Burma this summer, as I have written before.

But lately I have been starting to have second thoughts. Some of my friends claim that going to Burma as tourist would in fact imply supporting the military regime. And that I for sure do not want to do!!!

So what do you think? Should one go to Burma as a tourist?

I think you should come and visit our country and see it for yourself. Come with open heart, see with your own eyes and hear what the people are saying with your own ears.
As suggested before, come and see our country from the TOURIST POINT of view as well as ARCHAEOLOGICAL POINT of view.
One more suggestion, stay in a small hotel which are family owned rather than BIG hotels. I am sure you read in other article)
Book hotels well before your departure as we have seen the best season of tourist visiting Myanmar for many years. Lately, some hotels are fully occupied.
This is Not because from our part BUT BECAUSE of the bombing in Thailand during the NEW YEAR.
I wish you a pleasant trip to my country and please let us hear your COMMENTS upon your return.

I agree with Truthseeker. Visits from foreign tourists benefit the people of Burma, even though the regime is oppressive. But do not stay in the big hotels, there are plenty of family-run hotels that are good choices. In that way you help the family rather than the government or big corporation.
