SPDC is desperate. Each day brought new losses. They are not young generation clean leaders of Myanmar Military anymore, they became corrupted power hungry monsters. Disgrace of the States and Myanma Tatmadaw.

In 1990s, SPDC had too much relied upon Western hired lobbyist and pitiless business man. Marian Marshal Seagull, Michael Dob Higginson, Razali Ismail, Robert Taylor, Derek Tonkin, etc...to get International support. Than Shwe's dream was to become an international recognized and honored leader plus do what he likes to the opposition and the country. When he didn’t get what he want, often grumbled, he can't understand why US and the West support him instead of his rival DASSK. He is fighting the reds and he has the strong army and he is a strong ruler of Burma. DASSK is nothing compare with him and the reds are around her. Why can't the US and the West remain friendly with him and support him like Marcos of Philippines? He also wanted to make business with the US big companies. He and his family wanted to visit Europe and US like former head of states Ne win. He can give many contracts and projects to the Western companies. Likr the way he bribed Razali Ismail. In fact Razali Ismail wasted a lot of our time, telling lies for them. He made a lot of money and get easily rich by supporting Than Shwe. Aung San Su Kyi has nothing.

He used and tried many ways using his Western friends to woo US and the West. Before the second term election of Bill Clinton in 1996, Marian Marshal Seagull promised a daydream to Khin Nyunt that SPDC will get the US support, if Republicans became the US president, stating she has many influenced friends in that Party. She even made a speech in the parliament to support SLORC instead of DASSK and get the business opportunities from Burma. SPDC was so excited and prayed for Republicans to win the presidential election, even their articles in news paper were pro Republicans at that time. I remember reading in the news paper stating that the Republicans are very smart business minded people, they don't care what kind of government they are dealing. They care only for business, not like the current Bill Cinton Democrat Government, the Democrats are confusing business and politics, they loose business opportunity in Burma and the US citizens do not like them anymore for that reason. Republicans will win and make business with Burma SPDC in future blah...blah...blah... Unfortunately Bill Clinton was elected as President for second terms.

But Khin Nyunt likes the story very much and thought they've missed the chance and will wait for another. Khin Nyunt took Marian on his chopper and visited around the country to collect daters for her husband, Dob Higginson who wrote many propaganda articles around the world in favor of SPDC. He even helped SPDC to hire a well known US lobby firm with millions of dollars. Of course SPDC paid him large amount of introductory fees for the connection. Marian became a darling lady and brought up by the SPDC for another four years. Provided her with special business opportunities and fishing rights during that period. Her fishing boats were everywhere in Burma. Exporting millions of dollars worth of Marine products with special favors. Dreaming she can help them one day to get Marcos status and red carpeted treatment from the US and the West.

In 2000, when George Bush (Republican) became the President, SPDC was the happiest government in the world, they cheered George Bush first in the morning and waiting their dreams come true. Thinking Marian will do the job and fulfill her promises. But the situation never came close to their favor for Myanmar SPDC. American policy seemed unchanged after the government changed. George Bush started showing he is a tough guy for Burmese SPDC.

Unfortunately, Marian was in big trouble too. She was accused by her own business associates for stealing and selling of their secret bids to a Japanese rival company Marubini. Hong Kong base giant business association Perrei Green Ltd., sued her and the warrant was issued in the states. She was stuck in Burma and she can't travel to the States or anywhere.
Finally SPDC found out about it and check all her activities in Burma, they've found she was having sexual relation with the Minister of Livestock and Breeding Brig. General Maung Maung Thein and her business of smuggling huge amount of Burmese antiques. She was black listed and put aside since than.

SPDC had bitter experience making acquaintance with hired lobbyist and business first minded Western opportunists. Khin Nyunt paid dearly for his mistake. Sack all the Ministers involved and have knowledge about them. Intelligence units were crushed to the scratched yard and major commanders went to jail. They know they were cheated like babies.
More xenophobia arises now.

Heard these days in town that the Singaporeans counterparts will be terminated in near future from Myanma Airway International (MAI), a flag ship of Burmese airline. The government will control 100% of all the National Flag Ships. Air Bagan is coming. U Tayza, the front business man of Senior General Than Shwe will take care all the airline business in Burma. Air Mandaly is second in line who has to go. Myanma Five Star Shipping Line will be super seeded by the Government in future as well. And if successful, all the joint ventures in Myanmar will be taken by the SPDC and their affiliates in future. After all all those foreigners supported SPDC by investing their money in Burma like Marshal Seagull. But the generals are shouting National Economy must be in the hands of Nationals as if they are very patriotic.

Annalists predicted that will not be succeeded if SPDC control every big business in Burma like former BSPP government did. Socialists made a mistake and brought down the rich country to poverty states. Burmese business men still need more field expertise, worldwide connections, business know-how's and international view to run a successful airlines and shipping lines. They are just babies in international business ground. They got special opportunities and became somebody in Burma, but they are nothing without their special connections with the regime in world market.

But since declining of foreign investments and no new business opportunities in Burma, the Generals had to find a profitable business for themselves. First generation and second generation Generals got very rich and safely retired by now, new generation generals need new projects. Burma has nothing much left to suck. Forest and Fisheries are not popular anymore. Natural Gas is the only driving shaft for National Income. Generals need kick back money. They will eat their own flesh and will make business for them by the cover of Nationalist or Patriotic.

Let's see how fast they will ruin the country's business and eating their own flesh. (and blame others.)

Your analogy is very apt. Out of their greed and ignorance they have no idea of where they are leading the country into. To me they, the military as an institution, is like AIDS to a person. When the immune system breaks down then there is no protection for the body from any ill. The military is for the defence of a country and look how low they have become.

Even if Burma were to change today there'll be a very big task for whoever to rebuild. Sometimes one cannot sleep pondering over these things.

I had a friend who said that he chose to join the military because he loved himself so much. That my friend is the make-up of the military officials who are in leading positions in Burma today.

Buddhism for them is just a fad and not their faith. They have no compassion towards anyone, including themselves. We surely need a leaders who are not hesitant in any way to sacrifice for their country.

SPDC is doing DOG EATS DOG business.

Who gonna eat Than Shwe in the end? Karma is always true.

I also has a friend who openly said that he joined the army because he can do whatever he likes and now he is doing what he said.

Apart from that, I know a couple who was actively involved in 1988. Now they have totally changed and said that they should not have involve in 1988.

They changed not because of their ideology but purely based on their business. Now, they are doing very well with their DIAMOND SELLING business. You know who are their customers and why they changed.

What we need is Who really love the country not THAR GUU or pretender who care for their own benefit.
