Why does SLORC/SPDC unwisely follow the path of BSPP? Because the leaders of Myanma Tatmadaw (Both General Saw Maung and General Than Shwe) was so foolish and didn't know there was a big chance for them to join the people and to be the National Hero.

Everybody agreed that BSPP was dishonorable political party in Burmese history. It was founded by former dictator Ne Win to rule Burma with one party system, Myanma Socialist Lanzin Party to make military backed one and only political party. Though meant to last 1,000 years but only last 14 years and completely rejected by the people of Burma in 1988.

After the coup, Gen. Saw Maung announced that he will not take any side, he'd hold the power as interim government and he'll go back to the barracks after the Multi Party Election. He was a noble man if he kept his word and attitude, he could easily be the National Hero to make democratic reforms and take the people side. But Gen. Saw Maung unwisely choose to follow the path of BSPP rather than to join the people. He should have thought twice to stick to the BSPP rotten boat full of fish (In Burmese the thick crow stick to the dead elephant in the river) that he will gain nothing but inherit their bad reputation. He was the victim of his own system and expelled by his own cliques. He dearly paid for that decision.

Now Than Shwe, He too had that chance since 1993 when he expels Saw Maung from power.
He could be the leader of the reform and the country will be developing by now. He could be the National Hero of the new era, ha can be in power for as long as he wish if he is smart like Lee Kwan Yu from Singapore and plus, his good name will be never forgotten by the people. He will be Dote Bogyoke (Our Bogyoke).

But today, he might be the most sickening man in Burmese history, the country is shoddier, his rank and his personal security is in extremely danger, he will surely left bad memories in Burma for centuries.

Wish somebody who loves both the country and him advice and change soon.

The simple answer: SLORC/SPDC has never been wise. If it were wise, Myanmar would not have been this much devastated.

The worse is Sr. Gen Than Shwe is the most powerful guy in SLORC and he is also the most foolish man to rule Burma.

Reforming,Rebuilding and Renovating like kingdom in the whole Myanmar is not the answer to solve Myanmar's crisis.
