Until society learns to treat women as an individual with equal potential as any other human being, we will continually have this scourge in our societies.
Not so much as on competition for the lust of power but on the knowledge that one is not complete without the other. Hence they are man and woman. Two equals, two halves, and two lives joined as one in bringing about societies from generation to generation.

Girls regarded as future economic problem?
The lengthy study confirms other recent data, which shows that because girls are regarded as future economic burdens, the sex ratio in the Indian capital has dropped in the past 50 years from 910 girls per 1000 boys to 865.
Parents who persist in seeing girls as liabilities commit feticide if it is ascertained that a child is female, or infanticide after birth.
Sex predetermination is outlawed in India but widespread, with even well-educated parents in better-off regions trying to avoid having girls.

DREADFUL new statistics on feticide and the killing of girl babies in India have been disclosed, with doctors at a leading New Delhi hospital revealing that females have a better chance of surviving if the firstborn in a family is a boy.
In a study of birth data at St Stephens hospital over more than 100 years, doctors said they had found that a baby girl, as the second child, had a far better chance at life when a boy preceded her in the family. If she was preceded by a sister, her chances of surviving fell drastically.
Jacob Duliyel, head of the hospital's department of pediatrics, was quoted as saying: "The sex ratio for the second child when the first child is a boy is 1140 girls per 1000 boys. However, the sex ratio comes down to a mere 629 girls per 1000 boys when the first child is a girl."

Successive Indian governments have sought to educate people against the practice.

In India they pray for my baby to be a boy!
From day one, my unborn child has been under the scrutiny of practically everyone I meet in India, from my neighbour to beggars on the roadsides of the capital — each praying that my baby will be a boy.
“I will distribute sweets to the entire neighbourhood if you have a boy,” said my wealthy neighbour who owns a call centre company in the suburbs. Others have an ulterior motive for blessing me with a boy.
“Please give me some rupees,” said the pig-tailed little girl in ragged clothes who knocked on the window of my taxi as it stopped at the traffic lights in bustling New Delhi.
“God will bless you with a son,” she adds, looking down at my hugely eight-month pregnant belly. In this conservative patriarchal society, no one asks if you want a boy or girl. It is taken for granted.
A son will carry on the family name, become the breadwinner, look after you when you are old and, for some faiths, ensure your soul’s salvation after death by performing your last rites. For many Indians, girls are a burden you can do without. First, you have to worry about protecting their chastity. Most Indians believe a woman should be a virgin at the time of marriage.
I will be sure to celebrate the birth of my child with much fanfare — boy or girl.
As i aforementioned, in the Philippines women do lot more things for the betterment of our society-
the philippines should feel bette afterall!
