Granted that life sentence is better or worst than death penalty, my question is:

What would be the outcome if governments are weak and
life sentence are more often cut by granting parole?

What if there is not enough rehabilitation programs
and these criminals are freed because of corrupt systems
given parole by influencial and powerful dictates?

I would like to address this to all specially
because i think participants here are more
inclined to ethics

If Justice is the case then where does Mercy takes place?
What is higher mercy or justice?

hi kayum,

If China is not yet ready to abolish capital punishment
then would America be ready to abolish it? or would this
country allow death penalty to stay? Basing from its
status and criminal rate, USA has one of the highest crimes
in the world.I assume that they have the best and the most
number of rehabilitation programs and institutions

Then why should America have death penalty as the ultimate
course for justice? If we prefer life sentence then where does Justice take its place, would it be different from Mercy? Which is higher then?

Hi Linsi,

What is higher Justice or Mercy? In my opinon they should be of equal measure. Rehabilitation in terms of penology is a process of restoring a criminal to a useful & meaningful life. It does involve the assumption that humans are not habitually offensive or it is not a nature of man to be a criminal thus rehabilitation seeks to return a criminal to a state where he would turn away from his wrong doing and be productive to society again. Since it is an assumption, we really can't do much at the end of the day but to "hope" that a person would actually revert to being helpful and not harmful to society.

I guess every society has its ways and means of dealing with their own. We really can't say that China's ways of governing its people and keeping them from committing crime would actually work for us in the Philippines or them in in the USA. Probably US deems it necessary to keep death penalty or China as well because it is actually an effective deterrent or retraint to crime in their respective societies. In the Philippines, I just don't see it as effective.

hi kayum

btw (nice hair cut
going to the main topic:

When it comes to justice and mercy?
I think this is more of philosophical issues---

Would death penalty deter or at least restraint crimes? .. parang hinde (it seems it doesn’t)

Just look at the DNA test, 20 years ago it was not as popular as of now and how many inmates were freed
In the US because they were innocent as proven in their DNA results.

I want to ask your opinion aside from rehabilitation purposes, why do you think Capital punishment is not effective in the Philippines?
