Is Internet a necessity or a luxury? 1 Year, 5 Months ago Karma: 6
The number of people who go online have increased exponentially over the years.

Personally, Internet has become part of my system. I have work and I gear my career towards web because of the Internet existence.

How about you? Can you survive without the Internet? Has it become a necessity for you or has it remained a luxury?

Hahahaha nice question. It’s like can you live without cellphone?

For me internet, like computer, cellphone and other basic things i need to live is already necessity. You know why? In this era where technology is in its climax stage (so to speak) connecting to the world through the internet is basically what i really need. At home to do research or basically just to watch a video, I’m just one click away through the internet. At work, I first work on a web portal company wherein internet is one of the basic needs. I was born in the internet and I will die with the internet

The internet is a necessity on my part because being away from my family, I get the most out of its purpose. Hearing their voices, seeing them at least through the webcam or reading about their thoughts is a form of nourishment I get from the internet.

Oohh... and don't get me started on the obvious, almost unregulated abundance of information. It sure beats the 12 volumes of encyclopedias the early 80's had going.

Post edited by: kayum, at: 2007/05/02 12:31

Ooops. I didn't realize there were restrictions in the Nonsense section of the Forums.
I thought John's welcome note on this section indicated that we can talk about anything here...
Oh well...

The 'Asian' internet is a necessity on my part because being away from my 'Asian' family, I get the most out of its purpose. Hearing their 'Asian' voices, seeing them at least through the 'Asian' webcam or reading about their 'Asian' thoughts is a form of 'Asian' nourishment I get from the 'Asian' internet.

Oohh... and don't get me started on the obvious, almost unregulated abundance of 'Asian' information. It sure beats the 12 volumes of 'Asian' encyclopedias the early 80's (in Asia) had going.

Better?

I'd consider the internet a necessity because it keeps me updated with the latest news and several particular interests like the Asia Observer.
The free flow of information would greatly benefit most Asian countries, take the Philippines for example, because updated information is a key ingredient to progress.

Hi Jon2

I agree with you on that Internet is a necessity, and it changed my life. But is it a subjet of great interest on a site dedicated to Asia ?

Mr. Jacques,
You really don't have to bother speaking in behalf of the readers of Asia Observer. I'm quite sure that everybody here can decide for their own if they find the topics relevant or not. Besides, I believe mr. kayum has a point, this is a nonsense section. In my opinion, anything goes here. If you do not share that belief, it doesn't really matter anyway.
I do find the topic interesting and obviously there are others who finds it interesting as well which is why they posted their replies.
If it bothers you that much, I believe we have administrators here who may be able to help you with your questions.
