“
Good writing is sly stories that winks a little at the reader.”
Good writing is a series of small suprises. It is about keeping the readers delighted.
So push and pull at language. Let’s not get static. Pair unsuspecting nouns with unsuspecting verbs, we never know when a blid date may work out between them. Language is an artistic medium. As we see in other art forms – from music to painting to dancing—art is constantly evolving. So help the language to evolve.
So how do we get better? Read. Read. Read literature. Read poetry. Read essays. Write our observations in life down on paper. Keep complacement out of our writing. Complancy, for many, many reasons, is the enemy of good journalism. We should remember what differntiates great journalists are not in the reporting—there are many good reporters—it is in the writing. Don’t let complacency interfere with good writing, the questions we ask the way we look at the society, and we think about the world around us.
Lastly, starting a small paper could be the best thing for writing. I am seriously pondering to bring out a fortnightly online newsletter—The Writing Table.
