Nice place to visit close to Manila? 1 Year, 4 Months ago Karma: 16
Hello everyone,

It looks like I will be going to the Philippines for a few days in the beginning of May on my way to a course in Seoul.

I would certainly like to get out of Manila. So I am looking for a nice place to relax for a couple of days, maybe on the beach or a place with a unique and interesting cultural experience. Probably I will only be staying two nights, so it should not be much more than 2-3 hours by bus from Manila.

I was thinking of Puerto Galera. Is that a good idea? Or is there another place that you would recommend?

Eager to get your suggestions!

John

I'm really not so sure if there are direct flights from Manila to Puerto Galera. The only way I know to get there is to travel by bus from Manila to the port of Batangas, then from there take a ferry to Puerto Galera. The bus ride will take more than 2 hours and the ferry ride about an hour.

You want to see the Philippines in less than a day? Visit Nayong Pilipino. You'll see miniatures of Mayon Volcano of Albay, the Chocolate Hills of Bohol and get to see performances featuring Philippine Folk Dances. I just hope that it's still as good as when I visited it ages ago.

Hope you enjoy your stay!

Hey John,

I can give you suggestions but just wondering about the type of activities you enjoy. Puerto Galera might be too crowded in May as it is summer season. If recreational diving appeals to you, there are good diving resorts in Anilao, Batangas (about 2 hours drive from Manila). Or try staying in Tagaytay. This city in Cavite, a province south of Manila, offers a quick, enjoyable getaway.

Tell us more about your interests. I can refer you to a travel agent friend if you want to get yourself covered upon your visit here.

See yah!

Thanks for your suggestions!
I will check out the places you suggest.
Basically I will be landing in Manila on a Tuesday, then I thought I might go somewhere else from Wednesday until Friday before heading back to the capital and then onwards to Seoul. It will be just for relaxation - I don't necessarily need that much program. I am happy with reading and chatting with local people.

I have been to the Philippines three times before as a journalist and really like the culture. It will be fun to get back.

Any suggestions from other members?

John

hi john

I have two suggestions for your options. First is Batangas, , if you wish to stay in a beach where you can enjoy and relax. Second is Villa Escudero in Quezon, if you are into cultural experiences. It’s worth seeing the historic village with huge coconut plantations, welcomed by the serenade of local folks while on board a water buffalo drawn carts.

Enjoy!

John:
Villa Escudero is very cool ,very close and very relaxing. Puerto Galera is kind of a mess, to be honest.

Lin and sisAMIE,

Thanks for your great suggestions! I will check them out.
I actually was in Puerto Galera once, but that was way back in 1987 when I first was backpacking in China. I am sure it is a completely different place today.

John,

Since you came back from Philippines, can you share your impressions? Where have you been, what have you visited?

I'd like to learn more about it
